Sauflon Pharmaceuticals is a leading global provider of contact lenses and aftercare solutions, operating in 5 continents. They specialise in the manufacture and marketing of contact lenses and aftercare products to opticians, optometrists, eye doctors and eye-care professionals in over fifty countries. They also manufacture ethical pharmaceuticals for contract customers.  350 people are employed in the UK by Sauflon and they are FDA and ISO 9000 – ISO 13485 accredited.

 

Ben Cobb is the Quality Manager at their manufacturing site in Ashford (Kent). Sauflon’s Quality department is made up of 19 people, 8 of them in Quality Assurance and 11 in Quality Control.

 

Although the medical and pharmaceutical industry is heavily regulated, it was the drive to reduce inefficient operations and increase the effectiveness of their processes that led Sauflon to look into a document management solution.  Ben Cobb comments: “Our resources were tied up pushing paper, the administrative burden was too much and regulatory powers were going to bring in even more procedures”.

 

Ben Cobb first heard about Powerway when he responded to a marketing campaign being run by the company. Cobb recalls: “We investigated many other companies and Powerway’s Suite 2000 Desktop and Document control solutions were the best value for money system that we could find. Other solutions were either too expensive or provided us with many other features and modules that we didn’t need. We like the modular approach offered by Suite 2000 and the nature of an off the shelf product.

Suite 2000 has increased our efficiency, making it easier for us to meet customer demands

Sauflon is a very customer focused company and needed their new system to be operational quickly. They found Powerway Suite 2000 very easy to implement and have already deployed Desktop and Document Control within the production batch documentation team.  Ben Cobb adds: “They all find it very straightforward and easy to use. Suite 2000 has increased our efficiency, making it easier for us to meet customer demands, in particular in care products”.

 

Sauflon have created a link (using Terminal Server) with their Head Office and will be able to deploy Suite 2000 even further. The level of documentation currently been exchanged via fax has been increasing due to the nature of their contract work and the deployment of Desktop and Document Manager will alleviate this process. Cobb explains: “On a monthly basis we approve approximately 45 artworks. We need to be very careful, especially because artwork is changed so often.
