BorgWarner’s vision is to be the recognised leader in advanced products and technologies that satisfy customer needs in powertrain components and systems solutions. They specialize in developing key technologies for engines and drive trains. They operate from 62 locations in 17 countries and employ 17,800 employees worldwide.

Bernard Marsden is responsible for co-ordinating the calibration of gauges and equipment at Borg Warner’s plant in Bradford, West Yorkshire. He has extensive experience in the calibration field from his current role and from previous positions. They produce turbos for commercial diesel applications.

Before implementing Powerway’s Gauge Manager Solution for calibration back in 2001, Borg Warner used a DOS based system which was very rigid. When asked about the increase in performance that Gauge Manager offered them, Bernard was unequivocal in his answer: “Gauge Manager has increased our performance by 100%! I use Gauge manager every day all day!”

Bernard was very complimentary about the functionalities from Gauge Manager that help him on a daily basis. In his opinion, Gauge Manager is:

  • Flexible
  • Visible
  • Easy to navigate
  • Customisable

Bernard explains: “It is very easy to record and look for data and the data profile is very important to look for gauges. It is very easy to get access to the information that you require and I have the ability to create my own layouts so that I only see the data that I need to see”.

Some of the other benefits reported by Bernard are:

  • Good reporting functions and options
  • Clone information very useful when buying new gauges
  • Easy to change information. The add/edit function is very useful
  • Easy to change gauges to different locations, internally and globally
  • Excellent display of calibration test points
  • All the information is very visible; it is useful to monitor Gauge performance.

Borg Warner have been using Gauge Manager for the last 4 years and have enjoyed the flexibility that it offers. In 2004, Powerway and Borg Warner worked together in developing an integration software application with their Metroscope system.

Bernard is very positive about the quality of the work that was carried out and explains:  “It has helped us a lot to have some integration made between these two systems. It stops me having to manually type in and input data which helps us reduce any manual errors”.

Paul Alston, Technical Director and responsible for Integrations Services for Powerway in the UK explains: “It was a relatively easy task to integrate these two systems and ensure that they interact together in the way that Borg Warner was looking for”.

Integration Services are an important part of the overall Syncronology offering. It enables different systems to work together and therefore provides added efficiency and cost savings for existing Powerway customers.
